Admissions to B.Tech. Programme at ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute

ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute offers a B.Tech. programme in Dairy Technology, which aims to provide intensive training in the processing and quality control of milk and dairy products, as well as engineering aspects of dairy processing equipment. The programme is of four years duration and follows a semester system. Each academic year consists of two semesters, with each semester being around 18 weeks long. During the seventh and eighth semesters, students will undergo in-plant training on dairy plant operation and management at the Model Dairy Plant located on the Institute’s premises and at commercial dairy plants as organized by the Head DT.

  1. Eligibility for Admission: Admission to the B.Tech. programme is based on merit, as determined through an All India Entrance Examination conducted by the Education Division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), located at Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan-II, Pusa, New Delhi. The candidate should have completed the age of 17 on or before July 31 of the particular year of admission and must not be over 23 years of age. No relaxation is admissible regarding the minimum and maximum age limits.
  2. Name of the Admission Test: The All India Entrance Examination for admission to the B.Tech. programme at the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute is conducted by the ICAR New Delhi at several locations throughout the country. The sale of Information Bulletins, including application forms, is arranged by the ICAR through Registrars of State Agricultural Universities and Deemed Universities of ICAR. The result of the Entrance Examination is declared by the ICAR on its website (icar.org.in).
  3. Selection Procedure: ICAR conducts the counselling for admission at the National Agricultural Science Centre Complex, Dev Prakash Shastri Marg, Pusa Campus, New Delhi, on specified dates. Candidates admitted at NDRI have to deposit Rs. 2000/- as part of their regular fees to confirm their admission and receive the admission letter from the ICAR. Those candidates who opt for admission to other universities are not entitled to be waitlisted. Such candidates who are not able to get admission at NDRI and opt not to join at any other university are eligible to exercise the option of getting waitlisted. The waiting list is prepared by the ICAR and operated by the NDRI to fill up the seats that fall vacant due to the non-reporting of selected candidates leaving after joining. The schedule for the operation of the waiting list is announced by NDRI on the website and also brought to the attention of waitlisted candidates during counselling in New Delhi. Individual letters or communications are not given by NDRI for counselling schedules on the waiting list. There is no provision for migration from any other university to NDRI or vice versa. Admission to the programmes offered at ICAR-NDRI is based on a competitive entrance examination conducted by the institute. The entrance exam is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge and aptitude in the relevant subject area. The institute also considers the candidate’s academic record and performance in the entrance exam while making admissions decisions.

Admissions to M.Tech. Programme at ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute at Karnal, Bengaluru and Kalyani

  1. Duration: The Master in Dairying programme has a minimum duration of 3 years for students who have graduated with a 3-year degree programme and 2 years for graduates with four years of professional degrees.
  2. Eligibility Requirements: Candidates who have a Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field must have obtained at least 60% marks or an overall grade point average (OGPA) of 6.60 out of 10.00, 3.25 out of 5.00, or 2.60 out of 4.00. For SC/ST/PH candidates, 50% marks of a CGPA of 5.60 out of 10.00, 2.75 out of 5.00, or 2.20 out of 4.00 are required. Candidates can also apply if they are appearing for the final year examination of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme, subject to producing their Bachelor’s Degree certificate on the date of counselling. If they fail to produce the certificate, they will not be considered for admission.
  3. Qualification for Admission: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree from any university recognized by the Institute in the relevant subject. The details of eligibility and qualifications are published in the Information Bulletin for All India Entrance Examination for M.Sc. Admissions are published every year by the ICAR. Candidates possessing some of the above qualifications may have to undergo certain deficiency courses (Prerequisite courses) in addition to the courses prescribed for the Master in Dairy programmes.
  4. Entrance Examination: Admissions to the Master in Dairying programme are conducted through an All India Combined Examination by the Education Division of the ICAR. The examination is held at various centres in the country in May/June. The candidates are selected for admission based on their merit in the Entrance Examination and counselling.
  5. In-Service Candidates and Their Selection Procedure: In-service candidates in Central, State, and Autonomous Organizations/Universities/Educational Institutes having at least three years of experience in the relevant field of specialization and fulfilling the other conditions of eligibility as prescribed for all other candidates are eligible to apply.
